Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

I am a General Family Dentist. I can restore dental implants but I do not place the implants. I restore the implants after an Oral Surgeon or a Periodontist places them in your mouth. Below is a description of what a specialty dental surgeon can do. I as a General Dentist often diagnose the issues listed below and make referrals to the specialty dentists as needed or your primary M.D.

I can perform simple extractions of wisdom teeth. If they are impacted I refer them out to a specialist.

I have diagnosed several cases of oral cancer in my practice as well as squamous cell carcinoma of the nose. I do most of my own biopsies. I have also diagnosed hypertension, multiple sclerosis and other benign issues in the mouth.

The dentist is often the first to notice things with your body since people usually see the dentist about two times a year. Any pathology that I may
have concerns about will be referred back to your personal M.D. right away to get a final diagnosis and to formulate a treatment plan for your care. I care about the whole person not just about the mouth.

Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are specialists with advanced training and expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of various head and neck conditions and injuries.  After four years of dental school, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon completes four to six years of additional formal training in treating the craniomaxillofacial complex.  This specialty is one of 9 dental specialties recognized internationally and by the American Dental Association (ADA).

An oral and maxillofacial surgeon can diagnose and treat a wide variety conditions.  The following are just some of the many conditions, treatments and procedures oral and maxillofacial surgeon deal with on a daily basis:
